ABDUCTION OF CAC MEMBERS ON OWO-BENIN EXPRESSWAY: CONYSSA REACTS

The Coalition of Nigeria Youth on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA) Ondo State Chapter strongly condemns the recent abduction of about Twenty-Five (25) members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) from Akure, who were en route to Ifon, Ose local government area, for a burial ceremony. This incident occurred along the Owo-Ifon-Benin road, an area notorious for kidnappings and armed robberies.

It is with a sense of relief and gratitude that we announce the rescue of eight choristers from the CAC Oke Igan branch in Akure, who were among those abducted. We commend the swift and diligent efforts of the Security Apparatus in the State in securing their release.

However, our hearts remain heavy as we call for the immediate and safe release of the remaining kidnapped victims.

The safety of our citizens is paramount, and it is distressing that the Owo-Benin Expressway has become a breeding ground for criminal activities. CONYSSA urges the relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the security of this vital transportation route. We implore them to reclaim the territory currently under the control of kidnappers in the Ifon axis and to take decisive actions to prevent further abductions along this road.

In these trying times, CONYSSA stands united with the affected families and the entire community, and we remain committed to advocating for enhanced security measures to protect our citizens. We call upon the government to prioritize the safety of our roads and the security of our people. Together, we can make our highways safe once again.

The Coalition of Nigeria Youth on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting the safety and security of Nigerian citizens, particularly the youth. We work tirelessly to raise awareness, engage with stakeholders, and advocate for improved security measures to protect our communities.

Olusa Christopher Advocates for Sustainable Alternatives to Plastic Pollution

Akure, September 28, 2023 - In a significant move toward combating the pervasive problem of plastic pollution in Ondo State, Christopher Olusa, the owner of TalkWithTheDuke and a renowned advocate, lent his voice to the cause during a gathering hosted by the Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency.

The event, held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, in Akure, brought together key stakeholders, government officials, and environmental advocates to address the escalating issue of plastic pollution in the region. Christopher Olusa, who recently made headlines by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest speech marathon by an individual, seized the opportunity to champion sustainable alternatives to plastic.

Addressing the audience, Olusa Christopher extended his gratitude to the Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency and Hon. Oseni, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Affairs, for organizing the impactful event.

As a prominent climate change advocate, Olusa highlighted the urgent need for concerted efforts in tackling plastic pollution. He emphasized the necessity of reducing reliance on single-use plastics and transitioning to more sustainable materials. Biodegradable plastics, derived from sources like cornstarch, potato starch, or sugarcane, offer a viable alternative due to their ability to break down more rapidly than conventional plastics.

Olusa also underscored the significance of paper products as a biodegradable and renewable substitute for plastics. Paper, he argued, presents a sustainable solution with fewer environmental repercussions.

He called for a more comprehensive approach to raise public awareness and educate citizens about the environmental consequences of plastic pollution. Olusa insisted that the Ondo State government should play an active role in promoting these alternatives to plastics.

Furthermore, Olusa Christopher emphasized that environmental concerns should be treated as an emergency, a sentiment echoed by the Hon. Commissioner of Health. He pointed out that issues like flooding, mentioned by the representatives of the House Committee on Environment, are directly and indirectly linked to plastic waste pollution. Plastic waste often clogs drainage systems, obstructing the efficient flow of rainwater and resulting in localized flooding during heavy rainfall.

As the fight against plastic pollution gains momentum, Olusa Christopher's advocacy contributes significantly to shaping policies and raising awareness about the urgent need to transition to sustainable alternatives in Ondo State.

The event marked a pivotal moment in the state's efforts to combat plastic pollution and promote environmental sustainability, with advocates like Christopher Olusa leading the charge.
